بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ ص ۚ وَالْقُرْآنِ ذِي الذِّكْرِ 1 بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فِي عِزَّةٍ وَشِقَاقٍ 2 كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن قَرْنٍ فَنَادَوا وَّلَاتَ حِينَ مَنَاصٍ 3 وَعَجِبُوا أَن جَاءَهُم مُّنذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ ۖ وَقَالَ الْكَافِرُونَ هَٰذَا سَاحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ 4 أَجَعَلَ الْآلِهَةَ إِلَٰهًا وَاحِدًا ۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيْءٌ عُجَابٌ 5 وَانطَلَقَ الْمَلَأُ مِنْهُمْ أَنِ امْشُوا وَاصْبِرُوا عَلَىٰ آلِهَتِكُمْ ۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيْءٌ يُرَادُ 6 مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَٰذَا فِي الْمِلَّةِ الْآخِرَةِ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا اخْتِلَاقٌ 7 أَأُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ الذِّكْرُ مِن بَيْنِنَا ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ مِّن ذِكْرِي ۖ بَل لَّمَّا يَذُوقُوا عَذَابِ 8 أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَائِنُ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّكَ الْعَزِيزِ الْوَهَّابِ 9 أَمْ لَهُم مُّلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ فَلْيَرْتَقُوا فِي الْأَسْبَابِ 10 جُندٌ مَّا هُنَالِكَ مَهْزُومٌ مِّنَ الْأَحْزَابِ 11 كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ ذُو الْأَوْتَادِ 12 وَثَمُودُ وَقَوْمُ لُوطٍ وَأَصْحَابُ الْأَيْكَةِ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ الْأَحْزَابُ 13 إِن كُلٌّ إِلَّا كَذَّبَ الرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ عِقَابِ 14 وَمَا يَنظُرُ هَٰؤُلَاءِ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً مَّا لَهَا مِن فَوَاقٍ 15 وَقَالُوا رَبَّنَا عَجِّل لَّنَا قِطَّنَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ الْحِسَابِ 16

OCCASION OF REVELATION

      ABUJAHL headed a group of Pagan Arabs, and went to ABUTALIB who was then the chief of GHORAISH, and the prophet's uncle, and said:-

 

      ``Your nephew Mohammad hurts Arabs by despising our idols. Tell him to stop or else, we too may abuse his Lord and injure him.''

      The uncle summond his nephew. When the prophet entered the room, he saw no one around his uncle except several of the chief idolaters. Instead of the customary salutation he said greetings to those who follow the guidance of God! He then sat in a corner.

      ABUTALIB explained to him what was going on. In answer, the Messenger of God said:- ``Are they willing to agree on one word with me, through which they may attain superiority and rulership over the whole Arab?''

      ABUTALIB said:- ``Yes of course. Say what that word is?'' Our prophet said:- ``That you admit there is no god of whatever kind, except Allah.'' The prophet then added that; the idols are the source of your social lag, and a hindrance of progress.

      When the audience heard that, they put their finger in their ear, and went out, full of rage.

      Then the above passage of the Sureh was revealed to our prophet.

 

TOO LATE FOR RESCUE

      ص= SÄD here, is again an abbreviated letter of the Arabic alphabet, pronounced like, ``S'', that God and His Messenger know its meaning better.

 

      The Arabic, ``ZIKR'' translated here to Reminder, is a comprehensive word with several shades of meanings, so that no single word in English can illustrate all its denotations and connotations. The meanings include; remembrance, reminderِadmonitionِ noticeِ warningِmessageِrevelationِincantation and etc.

      It in cases, has served as another name for the Glorious Qurän too.

 

      Qurän is indeed a reminder to mankind, because a great cause of Man's misfortune is his forgetfulness, and worse than that, his ignorance.

      When Man forgets his Lord, it causes to forget himself, and by that becomes a faithless debaucher.

      Another consequence of such forgetfulness is leading the non-believer to arroganceِa sense of superiority which manifests itself in an overbearing manner.

      So the root of evil and faithlessness is arrogance that leads in seeking to produce division in a religion, and create schism, and then being doomed:-

      ``How many a generation We destroyed before them and they cried (FOR HELP) but too late for rescue.''

 

      In other word; almost all nations have received God's admonition and warnings, and yet they have rebelled and gone astray. As a consequence of that, they have suffered perdition.

      This has been proved as a natural law that evil deed and faithlessness will at last result to self-destruction. It seems as if the world is the like of a mountain which reflects our voice back to us, whatever we may say in front of the mountainِi.e. whatever we may do of bad or good. One day the wrong doer will open his eyes and decide to return and amend, but he finds it too late for anything to be done for rescue.
