OCCASION OF REVELATION
It has been narrated that after the battle of Ohud, ABUSOFYAN and ABDULLAH-IBN-UBAI, who was the leader of hypocrites, conferred with the Messenger of God (SA) and asked him to declare that, their big idols Lot and Manot, can intercede with Allah on behalf of their worshippers; and in return for that, they would be Moslems.
The prophet rejected their proposal, and the above verses were sent down to that effect.
This chapter of Qurän gets its name, ``AHZAB'' from the grand alliance against Islam that invested Medina, but failed utterly. In that confederacy all the non-believers, Jews, hypocrites, and the Bedouines of Central Arabia, united against our prophet. God did not leave His Messenger alone, and the confederates of treason, hypocrisy, and paganism was splashed and scattered by a wind that was blown by an angel as per order of God. The heathens fled fearful and disgraced, and everything went on to the benefit of Allah and his hosts.
ONLY FOLLOW THE DIVINE INSPIRATION
One of the most dangerous cliffs that the social leaders may encounter with; is to put up, and to take it easy, in the matters that are vital for the society, and essential for morals.
The polytheists of Mecca, and the hypocrites of Medina, did their best to pervert the prophet and turn him from the right course of Monotheism, and take him to some sort of abased agreement; which they failed utterly.
The above verses were sent down to render the prophet more careful about the evil plots and plans of the polytheists, and to act more decisively accordance to the inspirations that he would receive:-
"O, prophet! Beware of Allah and odo not obey the non-believers and thi hypocrites...."
And in the second instruction he is ordered to follow only that which came to him by inspiration:-
``And follow what comes to you by inspiration from your Lord that Allah is well aware of whatever you do.''
