INTENSIVE REACTION AGAINST THE WORSHIPPERS OF THE GOLD CALF. (VERSE NO. 150 - 151)

The above verses imply that Moses was very furious and sorrowful, before his return and meeting with the Israelites; because God had informed him on the Mount Sinai of what had happened down there.

He had every right of being so angry for the sake of God. Had he not behaved so, he should not have guided the ignorant and stubborn children of Israel, with his gentle advices and brotherly admonitions. Indeed the proverb is true in this case that says: ``Spare the whip and spoil the child.'' Therefore when he returned: ``He threw down the Tablets and seized his brother by the head, pulling him towards himself.'' And Aaron said: ``Son of my mother! The people sought to weaken me, and were about to kill me. So don't you let our enemies to rejoice over me.''

First of all, Moses (AS) laid hands on his own brother, who explained to him what actually had happened.

Aaron who was from the same parent, in an affectionable term, called Moses the son of his mother, and with much tenderness and regret explained to Moses how the agitated people were about to kill him for resisting them. So when Moses was convinced that his brother was guiltless, his anger fell down, and prayed to God to forgive him for his wrath and casting the Tablets, and to forgive his brother for not being able to suppress the agitation and prevent the idolatry of his people.

COMPARING THE SAME NARRATION IN THE OLD TESTAMENT WITH THAT IN QURAN

According to the Holy Quran, a man from among the Israelites, known as Samaritan (Sط, M¤, RI) proceeded on making an idol in the form of a calf that was made of gold, and induced the Israelites to worship the calf, saying to people: ``This was the god who rescued us, and led us out of Egypt.''

Aaron resisted and did his best to suppress the tumult, but the majority of the people were seduced and persuaded into disobedience and disloyalty. They threatened Aaron and were about to slay him!

Strange enough; in the present Bible, (EXODUS 32) Aaron has been accused of making the idol and causing the astray going of the Israelites! According to the narration in the old Testament: ``Aaron asked the Israelites to bring all their gold earrings; then he melted them and poured the melt in a mould, and made the calf idol, and encouraged the children of Israel to worship the gold bull!'' This is where the same Book in other chapter has clearly cited that, Aaron was an apostle of high rank and dignity, and that most of the miracles and signs given to Moses, were exhibited by the hands of Aaron! Then look at the force of superstitions, how does it introduce the apostle, who holds the banner of Monotheism, as a maker of idol and idolater! But the Holy Quran clearly states that, all the prophets are infalliable, and far from committing sins or worshipping idols and false gods of any kind.
